The North Yorkshire Moors Railway – Railways in Wartime

1st May 2015

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is probably one of the top visitor attractions in North Yorkshire. Famous for it’s appearances in many period dramas, TV series and movies, it is a beautiful, working railway situated in Pickering, just a few miles from The Old Post Office in Rosedale Abbey.

A very popular annual event has become the NYMR Railways In Wartime weekend on October XXX Originally started as a way to extend the tourist season and keep the railway busy into the autumn, the weekend has become a hugely popular event with many of the Pickering residents dressing up and taking part.

The event shows people who in World War Two railways were of vital importance to the transportation of an entire nation, from shipping munitions to evacuating children. If you’re planning on staying at The Old Post Office this autumn, this is a great event to be part of. Full details about the weekend can be found on this NYMR page here.
